Precise orbit determination (POD) is a key factor to enable observations using the phase-referencing technique with Astro-G. A POD accuracy of 30 cm is required for X-band phase referencing observations, accuracy of 6 cm for K-band observations, and accuracy of 3 cm for Q-band observations. In HALCA (VSOP-1), typical orbit accuracy was only 1 - 30 m by using Ku-band doppler observables. In order to achieve more than 10-times improvement, Astro-G satellite will be equipped with a GPS receiver and a SLR (Satellite Laser Ranging) retroreflector array. Though the use of high precision accelerometer had also been discussed, we concluded that it could not be used because it must be saturated during fast switching observations. Local-ties between phase-centers of four GPS antennas, reference point of the SLR retroreflector, and satellite's center of mass position, which will be changed as fuel consumptions, should be maintained accurately.
