Ablation experiments of Sic were performed by high-temperature freejets to investigate its ablation properties, weight loss, and weight loss rate. The same properties for carbonaceous materials were also measured to compare with SiC. As a result,it was found that the properties of SiC were different from the carbonaceous materials. Whitish materials were seen on its ablated surface, and it was observed microscopically and analyzed chemically. Relation between the surface condition and weight loss was discussed.
