The rolling moment characteristics of M-V-5 rocket at M(sub infinity) = 2.8 (corresponding to maximum dynamic pressure in its real flight) are discussed based on the results of CFD simulations. The rolling moment, created by small structure elements on M-V-5 surface, is very small, but strongly influenced by the wake interactions of each element. Those wake interactions may not be neglected especially for the objects placed downstream of the other objects. Simulations are carried out with and without some elements, showing the effect of the wake interactions. The results show the strength of the wake interaction and it is concluded that the effect of the wake interactions should be considered for the design of the size and location of the elements, although the created rolling moment is still within the range of on design.
