The study is to analyze an implication of natural convection of mantle layer with the boundary conditions consisting of heat conducting crust on the overall heat transfer characteristics. Prior to the analysis of natural convection with coupled boundary condition, the numerical calculations are performed based on rather coarse meshes of 10×10, having a preference of stabilized solution obtainable for wide range of parameters such as Rayleigh number, Fourier number and so forth.
After through detailed examination with fined meshes, it has been confirmed the validity on the evaluation of overall heat transfer characteristics, despite of extremely different behavior of flow pattern. In consequence, the effect of natural convection may be low throughout the parameters, depending on the rate controlling processes either of heat conduction or natural convection.
