The vapor cloud can accelerate the planetary atmosphere to escape velocity and cause the loss of atmosphere. It is called impact erosion. Investigated was the impact erosion in ideal adiabatic atmosphere by computational means and compared the results with those obtained from a simple model proposed by Vickery and Melosh (1990). The strong shock is produced in the atmosphere and propagates vertically as predicted by Newman et al. (1999). On the other hand, horizontal flow blows the atmosphere away from the impact point. This flow pattern is not reported by any previous studies.
