Many sounding rockets in Japan are launched on beam-type launchers. In many cases launchers are not perfectly rigid and their stiffness has great influence on the trajectory of rockets especially for the cases of unguided rockets. The present paper describes the results of measurements on Kappa 9M rockets and their launcher at lift-off. Displacements of the launcher and rocket have been measured by optical displacement followers and differential-transformer type transducers and accelerations have been measured by strain gauge type accelerometers. High speed camera has also been used to obtain a longitudinal displacement of the rocket. It is well shown that the launcher moves stepwise at first and then oscillates as the rocket goes upward on the launcher. From the present study, the enough data have been obtained to deal with these subjects analytically and experimentally.
