Layered graphite-FRP composites for solid rocket nozzles were investigated. Phenolic resin was used as a binder and three types of fibers; glass fiber, silica fiber and carbon fiber, were used to reinforce the ablator (FRP layers in the composites). The rocket motor tests for evaluating the composites were performed with various solid propellants. The nozzles which were reinforced with carbon fiber or silica fiber were promising, but those with glass fiber were inferior to others. The nozzle materials applicable to the plactical use were developed.
