The Sears type lift functions (Imaginery vs. real parts of the unsteady lift coefficient) of an aerofoil operating in sinusoidal gusts of a general form: exp[iω (t-x/V) + iλz)] with a subsonic flow have been calculated. The obliqueness of the gust wave front with respect to the aerofoil leading edge is found to be very influencial upon the aerodynamic lift and moment.
