For the new aerodynamic configuration design of HOPE-X (H-2 Orbiting Plane Experimental), whose geometry is modified from tip fin type to two vertical tail fin type in order to reduce the weight and get high performance, CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) has been mainly used and Navier-Stokes calculations performed in a short term from low (Mach number 0.4) to hypersonic speed (Mach number 26). Total, 250 computations were conducted for ten candidate configurations of new HOPE-X and the geometry effects on aerodynamic characteristics were investigated in detail to determine new basic model.
