This paper presents an application of the 3-D Navier-Stokes computations in designing a turbine vane cascade. The accurate prediction of the cascade flow characteristics such as total pressure loss and outlet flow angle is important for aerodynamic engineers to evaluate the performance of airfoil contour shapes. Here curvilinear leaned and swept stator vanes, adopted to suppress the secondary flow and reduce the losses, are studied in detail. The advanced design based on the 3-D Navier-Stokes computations succeeded to reduce the losses greatly showing the capability of the code as a design tool.
