Experiments were carried out in a small water tunnel. The formation of vortex street behind cylinders was investigated in Reynolds number range from 20 to 100 by the simultaneous use of hydrogen bubble technique and hot-wire velocimeter. The boundary Reynolds number which is the smallest Reynolds number with vortex shedding was determined experimentally. The value is about 40. The Strouhal number, which is the nondimensional frequency of vortex shedding is around 0.13 at small Reynolds numbers. Because they are sensitive to a weak fluctuation in the flow, the precise values can not be determined.
