The normal carp showed remarkably confused DLR behaviors for the first three days after launching. However, it returned to normal on the fourth and fifth days. The inclination speed of the DLR behaviors characterizes this recovery process. The cerebellar waves greatly changed at the second day when the carp\u0027s behaviors was confused, and at the fourth day when the carp began to recover. This fact suggests that the control mechanism of the visual and vestibular (otolithic) sensory motions was confused most at the second day and began to recover at the fourth day, and that the cerebellum may participate in the adaptation. On the other hand, the vestibule isolated carp, which received otolith isolation two months before launching and became able to swim normally by compensating the loss with other gravity receptors, showed remarkable confused DLR behaviors at the second day, like the normal carp. This fact indicates that the sensory compensation other than the vestibule may be confused in a weightless state. Observing this carp\u0027s reaction behaviors to light became impossible after the third test (on the second day) because of the badly twisted brain wave output cable. These results support the confused sense theory for space sickness, and indicate that fish is a useful experimental model for understanding the mechanism. The inclination speed of the DLR behaviors characterizes this recovery process. The cerebellar waves greatly changed at the second day when the carp's behaviors was confused, and at the fourth day when the carp began to recover. This fact suggests that the control mechanism of the visual and vestibular (otolithic) sensory motions was confused most at the second day and began to recover at the fourth day, and that the cerebellum may participate in the adaptation. On the other hand, the vestibule isolated carp, which received otolith isolation two months before launching and became able to swim normally by compensating the loss with other gravity receptors, showed remarkable confused DLR behaviors at the second day, like the normal carp. This fact indicates that the sensory compensation other than the vestibule may be confused in a weightless state. Observing this carp's reaction behaviors to light became impossible after the third test (on the second day) because of the badly twisted brain wave output cable. These results support the confused sense theory for space sickness, and indicate that fish is a useful experimental model for understanding the mechanism. In addition, both carps showed remarkable weight loss after the experiment. Nitrous acid and nitric acid concentrations in the tank water were unusually high. These facts suggest that their metabolism may be accelerated during flight. | |||||
