Numerical simulation of the Couette flow problem is carried out using the Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method. Velocity profiles in the Knudsen layer obtained using the DSMC method are compared with available analytical solutions of the simplified Boltzmann equation and experimental results. The comparison shows satisfactory agreement among the three when the speed of the walls is small. Then, it is demonstrated that the DSMC method is applicable to the dynamical simulation of gas, even when the speed of the flow is smaller than the typical molecular thermal speed.
