It is proved that the cross-independence hypothesis by Tatsumi and Yoshimura in homogeneous isotropic turbulence is inconsistent with Kolmogorov's theory of the structure functions of longitudinal velocity increment across distance r in the inertial range of r. Related to this, an unexpected paradox is found in the 1962 Kolmogorov (refined similarity) hypothesis.
