A new concept of a Mars exploring mission has been studied at ISAS and JSPEC, in which two spacecraft will be inserted into two different orbits with a different altitude. In order to evaluate preliminary design parameters of the spacecraft, launch opportunities as well as interplanetary orbits were analyzed based on a simple patched conics theory. This paper describes orbital characteristics of interplanetary transfer orbits from the earth to Mars, together with velocity increment required to transfer to orbits about Mars, and also summarizes a comparison of two strategies for orbit insertion and weight allocation of each method.
