The Jupiter and Trojans Exploration WG Preparation Team is now analyzing a 1.0-ton class mission which goes to Jupiter first and then Trojan asteroids after Jupiter swing by. The spacecraft has an ion engine system powered by a large solar cell membrane. The spacecraft is accelerated using principle of solar sail and ion engine to Jupiter. At the Jupiter swing by, a Jupiter orbiter is separated from the main spacecraft. After then the main spacecraft goes to the L4 Trojan asteroid region and makes a rendezvous with them. Since Jupiter is far away from the sun (5.2 AU), transfer from Jupiter to the L4 Trojans will be achieved by ion engine acceleration. This study analyzes the entire trajectory from the launch, Jupiter swing-by and eventually to Trojan asteroids.
