Proceedings of 15th Workshop on JAXA Astrodynamics and Flight Mechanics
Optimization of trajectories from the Earth to the Sun-Earth L2 point is discussed, supposing their applications to missions around L2, such as deep-space ports and infrared astronomical satellites. Trade-off between short transit time and small fuel consumption is considered in detail. Transfers are studied in several cases, ballistic flight using chemical propulsion without lunar swing-by and with lunar swing-by, and multi-impulse flight using electrical propulsion. We discuss each case from the viewpoints of transit time and fuel consumption.
