The present study investigates the influence of long-term exposure of 428 MHz radio frequency (RF) with an irradiation power density of 5.5 mW/cm(sup 2) on the developing chick embryos. In this experiment, the effect of RF was examined on hatching period and several organ weights of hatched chicks. The maximum SAR (specific absorption rate) value was 47 mW/kg, and the minimum was 3.1 mW/kg. The control eggs hatched on days 21 or 22, while the exposed eggs hatched on days 21 to 24. Therefore, it was clear that delay of the development occurred in the exposed group. The thymus and bursa of Fabricius weight of exposed group was smaller than those in control group in female chicks. The adrenal gland and thyroid weight of exposed group was heavier than those of control group in male chicks. The other organs did not show difference in weight between groups.
