When oscillation of lateral linear acceleration (0.3 G in a sep-mode) was combined with optokinetic stimulation (40 deg/s with a random-dot pattern), the otolith-ocular reflex (OOR) summated on the OKR during the agonistic stimulus-phase in which the directions of OOR and OKR were same, whereas the OOR was suppressed during the antagonistic stimulus-phase in which their directions were opposite to each other (Space Util. Res. 18: 152 to 155, 2002). This non-linear response property differs from the canal system since it is linear across the agonistic and antagonistic stimulus conditions. When the acceleration level was increased from 0.3 to 0.5 G, the non-linear response property was well maintained (Space Util. Res. 19: 12 to 15, 2003). In the present study, the interaction under low (20 deg/s), moderate (40 deg/s) and high levels (60 deg/s) of optokinetic stimulation was examined at 0.3 G. The change was small and linear at 20 deg/s, but became nonlinear at the higher speeds. An additional type of non-linear response properties was found in one third of the subjects. It was characterized by a marked increase in the OKR gain during the agonistic phase. After all, it can be concluded that the visual-vestibular interaction in the otolith system is different from that of the canal system.", "subitem_description_type": "Other"}]},
