Nowadays magnetic induction attains level of 10 to 15 Tesla inside the room temperature bore space. Present paper reports 2-dimensional convection of air in a vertical cylinder placed in a magnetic field. Aspect ratio (height/radius) of the cylinder was set to 3 with bottom part of a cylinder wall at low temperature and top part of a side wall at high temperature with the middle part of a side wall thermally insulated. Magnetic field was modeled using a one-turn electric coil around the cylinder. Depending on the vertical location of the coil, different patterns of fluid flow were resulted either with or without a gravity field. Heat transfer rates were also strongly affected by the location of the coil. The location for maximum enhancement in the heat transfer rate was found for both cases with or without a gravitation. The oscillatory convection was also resulted at some ranges of the coil location. Heat transfer rate due to the convection of air in a cylinder with hot and cold walls can be controlled by the magnetic field even in a non-gravity field.", "subitem_description_type": "Other"}]},
