Although similar numerical simulations have been conducted by Dominik and Tielens (1997, ApJ 480, 647-673), our simulations treat a large number of particles and various initial structures of aggregate compared to theirs. Thus, results of our simulations allow quantitative and statistical discussions on the compression and disruption processes of aggregate collision. Our results are consistent with those obtained by Dominik and Tielens: the maximum compression of the aggregates is achieved when the impact energy is approximately n(sub k) E(sub roll), and the catastrophic disruption occurs when the impact energy is approximately 10 n(sub k) E(sub break), where n(sub k) is the number of contacts in the aggregate before impact, E(sub roll) is the energy needed to roll a particle in contact by 90 deg, and E(sub break) is the energy to separate a pair of particles in contact. In addition, our results shows that the degree of maximum compression approximately depends on E(sub roll)/E(sub break).
