Morota et al. [2004] have suggested a probable model of evolution of crustal structure and rotation of the early Moon, associated with the heavy asymmetrical bombardment as follows. The preferential bombardment thinned the crust of the leading hemisphere and thickened that of the trailing hemisphere. As a consequence of the redistribution of crustal materials, the axis of the minimum principal moment of inertia shifted toward the west. The Moon was reoriented eastwards with the new minimum axis along the Earth-Moon line. The sequential actions operated continuously and concurrently on the early Moon, so that the Moon was gradually rotated toward the east. Longitudinal distributions of impact basins and crustal thickness models support the scenario. In this paper, we assay whether the heavy asymmetrical bombardment could generate the redistribution of crustal materials enough for the lunar continuous reorientation or not.",
