In NAL gust wind tunnel, an experiment of employing the model supporting method using crooked tail sting and robot with six degree of freedom as a conventional method was made for aerodynamic tests to investigate aerodynamic characteristics up to high elevation angle in such cases of VTOL (Vertical Takeoff and Landing) vehicle, high stalling angle of attack and so on. For the first test of this method, measurement tests of vertical three component internal balance and base pressure were carried out to investigate effects of this model supporting equipment on aerodynamic characteristics of test model, as well as to confirm the safety using 16 percent model of ALFLEX (Automatic Landing Flight Experiment) from the viewpoint of possible range of setting angle of attack, strength and rigidity necessary for model supporting equipment. For measuring the extent of effects of this model supporting equipment on aerodynamic characteristics, the results obtained from this tests were compared with those performed in the other test of same model supported by straight sting used in the range of general test angle of attack. In this paper, the outline of this experiment is reported.
