Wind tunnel testing of a full configuration fixed-wing model with propellers
National Aerospace Laboratory plans to transform its experimental aircraft, Dornier type Do-228-200, into an in flight simulator, MuPAL (Multi Purpose Aviation Laboratory). According the project, the present flap is to be changed into a DLC (Direct Lift Control) flap so as to give variable stability to the simulator. The design of the DLC flap requires the aerodynamic characteristics of the experimental aircraft, and the acquisition of such data, in turn, requires a full model with propellers, because the simulator obtains high STOL (Short Take-Off/Landing) making use of the strip stream of propellers. In this report, a model with propellers used in the test, the driving system, various apparatus for measuring aerodynamic characteristics, such as aerodynamic balances, and a simulation method of the driving force are described.
