HAYABUSA is a spacecraft to explore the asteroid (25143)Itokawa, and it is going to get an asteroid's fragments for the first time in the world. The spacecraft was launched on May 9, 2003 from Uchinoura Space Center using M-5 launch vehicle, and it cruises along a heliocentric orbit to arrive at (25143)Itokawa in June 2005. HAYABUSA carries an Ion Engine System (IES) as main propulsion in cruising. From the viewpoint of orbit determination, an error in acceleration modeling of low thrust has a great influence on orbit determination accuracy. This paper describes an evaluation for orbit determination under low thrust operation using IES.
