          <datacite:description descriptionType="Abstract">分生子形成に典型的な概日性リズムを有するアカパンカビのバンド突然変異株を用いて、そのバンド形成を宇宙で試みることにより、概日性リズムの発生機構に関する基本的知見を得ることを目的として飛行実験を行った。2個の成長箱に入れた12本の生長管の1端にアカパンカビを接種し、培養後保存し、1個を飛行実験用に、他は地上の対照実験用に用いた。スペースシャトル内で24時間、明条件で菌糸の安定な生長を行わせ、その後室温、暗条件で培養を行った。帰還後、宇宙で分生子が形成されるかどうか、また形成された場合にはそのパターンを地上の対照実験のそれと比較することにより、宇宙におけるリズム発現の有無、リズムの周期、位相などを調べた。その結果、概日性リズムについては、飛行試料、地上試料ともに5回の明確な分生子のバンドパターンが形成され、その周期は両試料とも同じ値を示した。このことから打ち上げ時にカビの生長を完全に止めた状態で実験を行った場合、24時間の周期のない微小重力下でも概日性リズムは発生し、分生子形成も周期的に行われることが明らかとなった。また両試料の菌糸の伸びを比較した場合、飛行試料の方が約1cmほどよく生長した。これによりアカパンカビの生長速度は微小重力でより速いと考えられる。分生子形態の違いについて肉眼で観察した結果、地上対照試料の分生子は寒天培地の上にもり上がるようにでき、生長管の上面にまで達していなかった。一方、飛行試料の分生子は生長管の上面までおおいつくすようにできていた。また分生子のできる領域も地上対照に比較してより狭くなっていた。</datacite:description>
          <datacite:description descriptionType="Other">For understanding the basis for the developmental mechanism of circadian rhythm, the space experiment was carried out to form the band of the band mutation strain of Neurospora crassa which has typical circadian rhythm in conidium formation. Neurospora crass inoculated on the one end of 12 growth chambers in two growth boxes was cultured and stored. The chambers in one box were used for the space experiment, and those in the other box were used for the ground control experiment. Hyphae were allowed to grow under light for 24 hours in the stable condition of Space Shuttle. Then, they were cultured in the dark at room temperature. After flight, the conidium formation in the cosmic space was checked, and if formed, the conidium pattern was compared with that of the ground control to examine the presence and cycle of circadian rhythm and phase. Both flight and ground samples showed five definite conidium band patterns of circadian rhythm. Both samples' cycles were also the same. These results show that Neurospora crassa whose growth was completely inhibited at the launch may have circadian rhythm under microgravity without 24-hour cycle, and that its conidium formation may progress periodically. Comparing the growth of hyphae of both samples shows about 1 cm larger growth in the flight samples. This fact indicates that the growth of Neurospora crassa may be quicker under microgravity. Macroscopically observing the difference in conidium shape shows that the conidia of the ground control samples rose on the agar medium and did not reach to the upper surface of the growth chambers. On the other hand, the conidia of the space samples covered the upper surface of the growth chambers. The conidium range of the space samples was also smaller than that of the ground control.</datacite:description>
