(Jovicentric Declination of the Earth) 効果から、木星と衛星イオの成す電波の放射源として、サーチライト状のビーム構造が提唱されている[1]。また，モジュレーション・レーン法観測結果とジャイロ周波数との考察から，木星の電波源は20km(観測周波数26MHzにおいて)を上限とすることが示唆されている。しかしながら地上でのVLBI観測では、木星位置での最高分解能は1000kmであることから、電波源サイズを同定することは不可能である。このため、宇宙空間を利用した、より大型の観測システムによる高分解能観測が期待されてきた。 Telescope)は、「かぐや」に続く次期月探査機(仮称：SELENE-2)の月周回オービターへの搭載が提案されている電波望遠鏡であり、これは将来の10MHz帯以下の月面低周波干渉計に向けての第一歩である。月周回軌道上のLLFASTと地上の電波観測局から構成される基線により、20-25MHz帯での木星電波のスペースVLBI観測を行うことにより、木星電波源に迫る20kmの高い空間分解能での観測を実現する。
