However, the properties are obviously sensitive to contamination of the melt by impurities. Non-contact techniques, for example EML (Electro Magnetic Levitation) and ESL (Electro Static Levitation), under a reduced convection condition have become a promising way to solve the problems. On the other hand, it is well-known that a static magnetic field suppresses convection in an electrically conductive melt even under the terrestrial condition. Therefore, a novel method using an electromagnetic levitator with a superconducting magnet has been developed for measurement of thermophysical properties of the melts. In the present study density and thermal conductivity of molten pure silicon have been successfully measured over wide temperature range including the undercooled region by the
