However, the mechanism to perceive the gravity and to transmit this signal in roots is not clear. According to the hypothesis that root columella cells percept the gravity, genes were searched that are ectopically induced in root columella cells from Arabidopsis T-DNA enhancer trap lines. As a result, 7 lines were obtained that induced GFP in root columella cells. Using three sets of nest primers designed from the T-DNA (Gal4-GFP) sequence, 45 highly specific amplifications were obtained after Tail-PCR. Sequence determination showed that 2 lines had the T-DNA region inserted near the genes for a Myb family transcription factor and an auxin responsive protein, respectively.
