As a result, a diode laser welding may be used for space applications. So a series of welding experiments were performed in the ISS orbital pressure on a stainless steel and an aluminum alloy using the diode laser welding process under vertical and angled laser irradiations. Results observed in the diode laser welding experiments performed can be summarized as follows: 1) Absorption of the laser power by the metal vapor can be inhibited by the 45 deg angled laser irradiation. 2) Penetration depth of the 45 deg angled laser irradiation is deeper than that of the vertical laser irradiation. 3) It is possible to remove oxide film from the surface on weld metal of
