Institute of Space and Astronautical Science, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA)), Sagamihara, Kanagawa Japan, Ablation experiments of Sic were performed by high-temperature freejets to investigate its ablation properties, weight loss, and weight loss rate. The same properties for carbonaceous materials were also measured to compare with SiC. As a result,it was found that the properties of SiC were different from the carbonaceous materials. Whitish materials were seen on its ablated surface, and it was observed microscopically and analyzed chemically.
