Although dynamic crystallization experiments are useful for estimating the cooling rate, experimental results only show the possibility of the cooling rate. It is, therefore, important to determine the cooling rate of actual olivines in rocks. We applied our model to calculating the cooling rate for olivines of type II porphyritic olivine chondrules in the Semarkona (LL 3.00) ordinary chondrite. The cooling rates show a wide range from 0.8 C/h to 2400 C/h for olivines in different chondrules. Although these results are broadly consistent with those obtained by dynamic crystallization experiments, the lower limit of the calculated cooling rate, 0.8 C/h, is about one order magnitude slower than experimental results.
