Geographical Information System (GIS) integrates digitized map data, other attributes of statistical data referenced on the map. The data on GIS can be retrieved, analyzed, and visualized on display. Ordinary GISs are used for the Earth. There are no existing GIS developed for small body. Most small bodies have very irregular shapes. Plane maps of such irregular-shaped asteroids are not to help to understand the general contexts of surface features because of its large distortion. The existing GISs for the Earth can not be applied to the irregular-shaped small bodies, because they can not handle non-spherical or non ellipsoidal map data. Furthermore, for extremely irregular shaped bodies, it is impossible to define a location of an object on the surface by the standard latitude-longitude coordination. We develop a tool for visualization of a 3D shape of an asteroid, which is modeled with polygons, to enable GIS-based analysis of the asteroid data. This tool can handle a three-dimensional polygon data of the irregular-shaped asteroid and various mapping data. A viewpoint of the model can be changed arbitrary by mouse operation., 資料番号: AA0063723017}, pages = {68--72}, publisher = {宇宙航空研究開発機構宇宙科学研究本部, Institute of Space and Astronautical Science, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA/ISAS)}, title = {Visualization and analysis for irregular shaped small bodies}, year = {2007} }
