Cassini-Huygens spacecraft has revealed active jets of water vapor and ice particles emanating from the south polar region of Enceladus. One conceivable scenario is that the plume is generated from a subsurface liquid water reservoir and results in a cryovolcanic eruption through the conduit in the icy shell. We investigate the possible role of tectonic stress and overpressure due to gradual solidification of water reservoir exceeding the strength of ice to induce cracking and to drive the cryovolcanic eruption. The stability and solidification process of the subsurface isolated liquid water reservoir to ambient colder icy shell and the resulting stress in surrounding ice shell due to volume increase arising from solidification of the reservoir are numerically investigated.
