In order to study the ejection processes of sodium atoms from Jovian satellite Io, carried out was high dispersion spectroscopic observation using a 188-cm telescope and High Dispersion Echelle Spectrograph (HIDES; R = 100,000) at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory (OAO) in February, 2004. Observation results showed distinctive slow velocity component and fast velocity components. Slow components at +/- 0.32 R(sub J) (1 R(sub J): Jovian radius = 71,400 km) separated from Io showed different profile at their wings. Three fast components, 15 km/s, 30 km/s, and 40 km/s were observed at 0.02 R(sub J) westward of Io. Computer simulations will be needed to further explain the observation results. |
