The bacteria with high ultraviolet resistance have been isolated from stratosphere and the troposphere. However, the highest altitude of the sampling was limited to about 12 km. In this work, collaborative sampling experiment of ISAS and Tokyo University of Pharmacy and Life Science was conducted to collect microbes at the atmosphere in a higher stratosphere. The microbes were filtrated with ultra-membrane filter at high altitude using balloon and the filters were placed on the medium.
