Tribological characteristics of various types of MoS2 sputtered films were then evaluated and compared. For similar types of film, repeatability of frictional characteristics was good and the wear life was within a factor of 3, better than the repeatability found in the literature. All the MoS2 sputtered films tested displayed common features in dependency on environment and friction evolution, typical features of MoS2 itself. However, wear life was dependent largely on the film type, i.e. the sputtering method and conditions.
