The well-known emission feature at 3.3 micrometers, commonly attributed to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) as well as other minor features such as the aliphatic emission band at 3.43 micrometers were detected from diverse physical conditions, including HII regions, supernova remnants, and starburst galaxies. These features are also commonly observed in protoplanetary disks (PPDs) around Herbig Ae/Be and T Tauri stars over wide evolutionary phases. The aromatic/aliphatic features are often used as a diagnostic tool of the physical and chemical conditions of their surroundings.
