S.P.: Proceedings of the 2002 International Science Symposium on the Leonid Meteor Storms}, month = {Mar}, note = {Various failure modes of spacecraft due to hypervelocity impacts by meteoroids were seriously concerned after the 1993 return of the Comet Swift-Tuttle (Perseids) and the 1998 return of the Comet Tempel-Tuttle (Leonids). In 1998 to 2001, used is image-intensified CCD video imagery including visible-UV high-definition TV system from airborne platforms and high altitude mountains and optically measured fluxes and population indexes of faint Leonid meteoroids in respective dust trails, which were equivalent to as small sizes as approximately 300 microns, the size might have caused the 1993 Perseid-Olympus anomaly. Then, the statistically reliable, actual dataset was derived for satellite risk assessments by meteoroid stream impacts for the first time. Defined In as the hourly number of operational satellite to receive impacts of Leonid meteoroids larger than 300 microns, it was obtained that In = 0.002 = 0.1 Isp (I for sporadics) in 1998; In = 0.037 = 1.9 Isp in 1999; In = 0.004 = 0.2 Isp in 2000; and In = 0.083 = 4.2 Isp in 2001. Only In of the Leonid storms in 1999 and 2001 exceeded Isp by factors of approximately 2 to approximately 4. Therefore, even young Leonid trails with ZHR of several hundreds seem short in small meteoroids and do not pause very high impact numbers onto operational satellites, compared to average values of cumulative flux of sporadic backgrounds, unless storms exceeded ZHR of several thousands. Yet since the duration of the storm components of the Leonid dust trails are so thin that significant levels of impact risk do not last long, in a few hours at most., 資料番号: AA0046133034}, pages = {261--269}, title = {Satellite impact hazard assessment by Leonid meteoroids in 1998-2001}, volume = {15}, year = {2003} }
