Gas is a monatomic one of Maxwell molecules. By comparing the numerical solution obtained from simulation calculations with the approximate six-moment solution of Liu and Lees, the accuracy of the latter is examined in detail. As to the flow velocity and shearing stress, the six-moment solution shows reasonable agreement with the simulation solution. As to the temperature, density, and heat flux, the error of the six-moment solution is not small in all flow regimes except near-continuum one.
