The electron gun has an ability to provide an electron beam with 5 KV, 300 mA (1.5 KW). The system is composed of tow sections, high voltage section for the electron gun operation and diagnostic instruments. The power to extract the electron beam for 80 ms every 5 sec. is provided from a capacitor bank charged by a high voltage power supply. Both acceleration voltage and beam current are varried systematically in three steps. The diagnostic includes Langmuir probe, a floating probe, three photomultipliers and VLF/HF receivers. The electron density and temperature in the ionosphere are measured by the Langmuir probe, and the charging of the rocket caused by the electron beam emission is measured by the floating probe. The visible emissions excited by the electron beam are observed by the photomultipiers with optical filters.
