A flip-flop symmetrically triggered by a Geiger-Mueller counter actuated with a radioactive source yields a random telegraph signal with Poisson-distributed zero crossings. The random telegraph signal has a frequency spectrum extending from, say, 10 Hz to zero frequency. The output power spectrum may be altered to meet a given requirement by linear shaping filters.
