The acoustic path difference between two microphones placed at an observation point is determined from the peak of the cross-correlation function of the noise signals obtained by those microphones, giving the elevation angle of the aircraft. The elevation angles at two observation points determine the cross-point of the flight path of the aircraft on the vertical plane including those two points. The noise sources of the aircraft spread widely and the position of the center of the sources located by this measuring method is considered. The effects and corrections of the weather conditions such as the temperature or wind, which affect the acoustic wave propagation, are also discussed in this paper.
