Two cases, one where the collision occurs within a time as short as a few minutes, the other where it occurs after a time as long as orbital period, are discussed. In the latter case, the relative motion of the stages is analyzed under the assumption that the reference orbit is circular and the magnitude of the residual thrust is constant.
