Ion chambers having a Mgp_2 window and filled with nitric oxide gas have been developed for the measurement of absolute intensities of solar and geocoronal hydrogen Lyman-α radiation. Comparisons of ion chambers having MgF_2 and L_1F are discribed in terms of their acuracy and stability for the purpose. The results indicate that an ion chamber having polished MgF_2 window has the best suitability for the reliable measurement in rocket- and satellite-experiments as well as in laboratory work. |
