Using this machine the pressure field inside the inlet duct are measured and analysed precisely for the cases of single rotor blade row and of rotor and stator blade rows. In the latter case the number of stator vanes and the axial clearance between both blade rows are changed. The aspects of the pressure field near the rotor blade row which are closely connected with the generation of fan noise are made clear, and the features of the noise propagation inside the inlet duct are also clarified.
