Only a simplified model equation is analyzed in this report to obtain some fundamental informations from the standpoint of numerical analysis. The discretization is based on the use of the simplest finite element method, i.e., the piecewise linear simplex model. Our numerical method is essentially based on the Newton type techniques combined with the displacement-control procedures, which are frequently employed in the finite element analysis of buckling problems. Numerical solutions are obtained for both one and two dimensional problems to see numerical behaviors and accuracy of the proposed method.
