Special emphasis is placed on the discussion of the applicability of the Kutta condition to the unsteady airfoils. Based on the generalized Bernoulli equation and the Kelvin theorem on the conservation of the vorticity, the detailed mechanims of the vorticity shedding from the unsteady airfoil and its eventual roll up into a vortex street were fluid-dynamically clarified.
