It is equiped with a near-infrared Fourier transform spectrometer at the coude focus. The primary purpose is the high-resolution spectroscopy of red giant stars free from terrestrial atmospheric absorptions. In order to pursue these observations, a high-precision attitude control system is required. At the latest flight, the coarse control stage achieved the star-tracking with an accuracy of 0.1 arcminute, while the fine control stage obtained an accuracy of 1 arcsecond.
