The TS has the capability of reducing background protons to about 2% above 10GeV. The IC consists of scinitillating-fiber belts, emulsion plates and lead plates (∿8c.u. thick in total). The two-dimensional profile of cascade development observed with the IC can be employed additionally to reject 95% of the background protons.
